Scientific library
The scientific library of the Borok Geophysical Observatory contains more than 7000 monographies on geophysics, geology, geochemistry, mountain sciences, physics, mathematics, chemistry and other general scientific directions. The main part of the library is the scientific and popular periodical press. More than 30000 copies of leading foreign (English) and Russian journals contain the information on researches and last achievements in studying of the geoelectromagnetic field, the seismic phenomena, paleomagnetizm and magnetism of rocks, the atmospheric electricity, fundamental properties of the matter and the universe. A lot of works include the objective scientific description of the global and regional geophysical phenomena from the Tungus meteorite falling and to the strong magnetic storms. There are also monographies and manuscripts of original articles and dissertations of the observatory staff in the library.
Users of the library are employees of the Observatory, inhabitants of scientific settlement Borok, pupils and teachers of Borok high school, employees of the Shmidt's Institute of Physics of the Earth RAS.
The library has the traditional alphabetic and regular catalogues as well as the electronic catalogue of library fund in RUSMARC format. The unified catalogue software allow to create the catalogue, to support library technologies, to integrate the catalogue in the local access network, to work in the Internet with a remote access to corporate network catalogues under HTTP and Z39.50 protocols. So the scientific library provides an access to the electronic library of the Russian Foundation for Basic Researches.
